Suchard Hot Chocolate T Disc 1316 June 5, 2008 The mechanics of the disc work great in the Tassimo machine. But, it's too sweet and tastes a little fakey to me. Will not replace my hot chocolate discs when I run out. Frankly, instant powdered hot cocoa tasted better to me than this!
Will keep my tassimo, as I love it, but will stick with making regular coffee, hot tea, mochas from an espresso & milk disc and a few squirts of hersheys syrup.
Good as "Hot Chocolate" but mediocre "Hot Cocoa" June 1, 2008 2 out of 3 found this review helpful
West-coast Americans often use the terms "Hot Chocolate" and "Hot Cocoa" interchangeably, but technically (and legally) they are somewhat different products. Depending on the recipe Hot Chocolate tends to be a thin but strongly flavored drink, whereas Hot Cocoa is typically thicker but gently milk-chocolate flavored.
Suchard's imitates the darker flavor of old-world Hot Chocolate, rather than the popular flavor of Hot Cocoa.
So you might be justifiably disappointed if you're expecting flavor like Carnation or Swiss Miss (popular Hot Cocoa mixes). But you might be pleased if you want a darker, stronger flavor than your usual supermarket cocoa.
As Hot Chocolate goes, I found Suchard's very reminiscent of dark chocolates (like Hershey's "Special Dark") but overly sweet (again, like Hershey's "Special Dark"). It blends nicely with espresso, but it's a bit cloying on its own.
Compared to Hot Cocoa, Suchard's doesn't have the thick texture a Carnation-lover might expect. It doesn't taste milky or creamy, although there are milk ingredients.
Judged solely as a traditional Hot Chocolate, Suchard's T-Discs are very good but not quite excellent. But they're a poor substitute for Carnation or Swiss Miss if you prefer Hot Cocoa.
Chemical Aftertaste! Blech.... April 3, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I should have listened to the reviews on these hot chocolate pods, they aren't very good at all. To me, they had a slight chemical aftertaste which was really strange! I'll definitely stick to the other t-discs, every other flavor I've tried so far has been great except this one!
A fine chocolate for mixing coffee beverages February 21, 2008 9 out of 10 found this review helpful
I'm afraid that many of the negative reviews about this product rather miss the point. They even state on the Tassimo website that these discs are best used with the addition of marshmallows or milk, but even without this information, most people would be able to figure it out for themselves.
The Suchard disc contains chocolate syrup. It has no milk, no cream, and no non-dairy creamer. When most people think of "hot chocolate," they think of a drink that's made with milk, no? Just like a latte or a cappucino requires the addition of milk. Yet for some reason the same people who think nothing of adding milk to make a cappucino can't figure out that they need to do the same to make hot chocolate. Baffling.
Use of the Suchard disc without the addition of milk or cream (either the Tassimo milk discs or regular milk) will have the same result as diluting Hershey's syrup with water. Expecting it to taste anything like Swiss Miss or similar packaged cocoas containing powdered milk is unrealistic and unfair. This product is even better used with powdered milk or non-dairy creamer, as it has a richer flavor due to less dilution that way.
yuck February 8, 2008 I LOVE my Tassimo but the Suchard's hot chocolate is just not good. I use the Tassimo for hot water and add whatever hot chocolate mix I happen to have from the grocery store. They're all better than Suchard's. It's weak, watery, and has very little chocolate flavor. I'm surprised Gevalia and Tassimo lend their names to this product. I tried one pod. I'm not sure what I'll do with the ones I have left. It's so bad that I don't even want to use them up. Sorry, Suchard.
