4 cup - this part is partially true March 15, 2007 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
4 mugs capacity would be a better description. Due to the construction of tea container the water flow around the loose tea leaves is severely restricted. The impact of it is two-fold: 1. If you need just one or two mugs of tea you are out of luck, the first row of perforations in tea container starts just there...
2. For 3 to 4 mugs it's ok, but as the water cannot freely circulate you need to add some brewing time, or use the plunger to force water movement.
Additionally, when pouring tea make sure you hold the cover with your other hand...
PS. As the capacity of it is close to perfect for me, I'm thinking about using my dremel and adding a few rows of perforations to the strainer. Original idea is that when the tea is ready you lower the plunger to stop steeping. As I pour tea as soon as it's ready, perforating the whole strainer would make it only better tea pot.
Cheaply made March 15, 2007 4 out of 5 found this review helpful
This tea press works, but it is cheaply made. The inner basket is plastic, as is the press mechanism. The lid is held on by 2 small plastic pieces and one of the pieces had already broken off during shipment to me. I would advise spending a little more to get a better one.
Good teapot - excellent pouring spout March 5, 2007 I just purchased this teapot and am pleased with it. In particular, it pours very well - you can pour it at a steep angle, and it does not splatter at all. (I have had problems with coffee pots so am cautious of this.) This size is perfect for me - I can get 3 mugs of tea out of it. The one issue may be ktea staying warm. I suppose that's what tea cozies are for.
OK, but drips February 6, 2007 7 out of 7 found this review helpful
I like the tea press concept, it is perfect for my lifestyle. But the actual unit that I bought dribbles way too much. I hate to complain, but the spout is way too small for pouring, in my opinion. If you pour fast, it will get caught up on the strainer, and run down the side. If you pour slowly, it will dribble. I admit I may be clumsy, and sometimes overfill the press, and it does say in the instructions to fill it 2cm (about an inch) from the top to prevent this (which makes it hold less than 4 8-oz cups), but I've found that only helps somewhat, as it still dribbles. Not to mention the tea gets cold. As a result, I'll stick with my ceramic teapot and a tea ball most of the time. In summary: -1 star for dribbling, and -1 star for cold tea and tea leaf fragments.
Works great for me January 28, 2007 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Great simple tea pot. Love the press feature. I use this every day and have no problems with it. The plunger works perfectly, the lid fits, it pours without a problem, and the glass is sturdy. I usually drink Numi teas - mostly whole tea leaves - so I have no problems with tea particles escaping through the plastic filter, but even the Tazo teas aren't much of a problem. A fine metal mesh would have been better, but I don't know how that would work with the press. It makes enough tea for four regular sized mugs or 2 giant ones. I keep the tea hot by using the Norpro cup warmer I bought through Amazon (this one works - I set the pot right on it). For the price, I'd buy this tea pot again.
