Happy Sippin' January 7, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I could not get this book in a book store, but found it on Amazon after reading about it in the New York Times Food and Wine section. It was a great gift and appropriate to our tropical setting. We'll enjoy it for a long time.
How Much Do I Love This Book? December 9, 2007 Well, a lot. Enough that I learned how to make my own "grog mix," cinnamon syrup and, yes, my own pimento liqueur after reading it. It's indispensible as both a bar guide and a history lesson.
Greatest tiki book ever November 24, 2007 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
My copy of Beach Bum Berry's new book arrived and I have now read it cover to cover. All I can say is it is an awesome read.
Like a perfectly mixed tiki cocktail, it is a balanced mixture of tiki history, plenty of mixology, personal interviews and lots of beautiful color photos stirred in (one on just about every page). It is a great book on its own but it also has all recipies for all the classic tiki drinks in one book. Mai Tai, Zombie, Pearl Diver, Derby Daquari, etc. etc. they are all in here. If I was stranded on a tropical island and could only bring one tiki book this would have to be the one I would choose.
Now go and buy your own copy and place it in a position of honor on that shelf behind your tiki bar.
Drink and be Merry, Mr. Berry! November 15, 2007 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I LOVE this book. Whether an amateur (like me) or pro "mixologist", this book brings to life the "spirit" and history of the tiki era of the 50's and 60's - reviving both the "spirits" of the time's drinks and the people behind them. Knowing the "DNA" of the special concoctions included in this book, makes them that much more enjoyable to drink - and the author has captured the true essence of a by-gone-mixology. So pick up this book, and mix a few drinks for yourself and your friends - and enjoy a special night in!
GREAT DRINK HISTORY LESSON October 24, 2007 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Interesting reading. I've often wondered where some of those great tropical drinks came from. Not to mention the mystique of the tropical paradise. Fun reading with great recipes included.
