5 out of 5 stars The easiest to use wax I have ever used   June 13, 2008
1 out of 1 found this review helpful

Here is the reply I got from Turtle Wax (Shelley's) Australia about this wax, I wrote to them after reading that negative reply... I must say I have waxed my car 5 times and have used less than half the bottle of wax.. I was also impressed with the ease of use and how quickly the job can be done (around 30 minutes).
This ICE is great..

Thankyou for your enquiry.

The ICE product does contain a small amount of carnauba wax, however the majority is a blend of synthetic waxes.

The terms "wax" and "polish" are virtually interchangeable these days, but going by traditional definitions a polish is a product that contains a cutting agent that removes oxidised paint while a wax is a protective layer over the painted surface.

Therefore, by traditional standards, ICE Polish is actually a wax as it contains no cutting agent and sits on the painted finish to form asmooth layer/shine. That is why ICE Polish is suited better to newer cars or cars with newer paint finishes.

Older painted surfaces would need to be prepped with products such as ICE Liquid Clay Bar or Scratch and Swirl before using ICE Polish.

The ICE Detailer was designed to refresh the original shine of the polish after washing to obtain optimal results. It does not need to be used.

ICE Polish is designed to make water bead off it, like all other good polishes. This is from the smooth finish, which is the reason for the high shine level. I have never heard of this as being a negative before.

One of the people in the office drives a blue car and they use the Ice Paste and have never had an issue with bad water spotting.

To summarise, ICE does leave a wax layer to protect your paint surface. It is the hardest polish in our range, just beating F21 Paste and Super Hard Shell Paste.

In relation to layering, there is no correct answer here as the more effort you put in, the better the result. There is no limit to the number of layers, the more layers that go on, the deeper the finish. Serious car enthusiasts have been known to put 12-15 layers on thier cars. However you need a high quality paint job to get the best results from the layering effort.

4 out of 5 stars Simple to use, minial effort   June 6, 2008

I have had the same bottle of ICE polish ever since it came out. A little bit of this stuff goes a long way. This stuff goes on very easily, and buffs out with minimal effort. The finish result is pretty good. It may not be as good a shine as some Mothers or Maguires products, but here is the best parts about ICE polish: No white residue. I cant tell you how annoying it can be to use a regular paste, only to get a smear on a piece of black trim and have a white streak on your otherwise shiny ride. Its like playing "operation" on your car, and any black trim are like the electric sides. With ICE, you can zip over your whole care, black and plastic trim and add, without worry. In fact, ICE gives a bit of shine to any black pieces.
I use this stuff maybe once every 2 months. I also use liquid clay bar before i apply this stuff and the end product is fantastic. I used to spend almost 3 hours with a ton of cloths and applicators with the mothers 3 step products. The end results were nice, but I hated busting my hump to use them. Now, I wash, clay bar, polish and buff dry my whole scion tC in about 1 hour or so.

The one downside to this stuff is on some color cars (like my blitz blue tC), it can be hard to tell if you missed buffing any spots. So to avoid this, go section by section, rather than the whole car at once and then buffing. This stuff tends to blend well into the car, and can leave a sticky swirl if you don't buff it out.

1 out of 5 stars Worst car product ever!!!!!!!   May 27, 2008

After all the hype, I finally decided to try ICE out. Went on very easy.... But that is where it ended for me. Since this is a POLISH and not a wax, I used a carnuba glaze before applying this. The stuff never dried. It beaded up like sweat and sat on the finish. I buffed it out by hand with the supplied micro fiber towel and it looked glossy.. almost wet. Well that was yesterday.. today it has streaks and blemishes all over the whole car.

I would compare this to applying tire dressing to your paint.... it looks like baby oil, smells like silicone, hey I've got an idea, why not just spray the car with wd40.... the restults will be about the same.

I threw this stuff out and now I have a $20.00 micro fiber towel.

DO NOT USE!!! IT IS NOT A WAX!!!! IT WILL STREAK YOUR PAINT!!!!!

4 out of 5 stars Easy to use, but doesn't last very long.   February 11, 2008

I'll start this review by being very upfront. I like my car to look NICE, but I don't like doing the work involved with making it look like that. Luckily, my husband has always dutifully waxed all of our vehicles, even though he had never particularly enjoyed the job either. So, this review is pretty much based on his experiences. He's not a computer sort of guy though, so it's up to me to do the review. =)

Last summer our neighbor (who has an obsession with washing/waxing his vehicles), told my husband about this Ice Liquid Polish. Since my car was due for waxing, hubby went off to the local Wally World to buy a bottle. I think he paid $16-$17 for it, and it included a sponge applicator and a small microfiber towel.

Now, washing and waxing a car is normally a 1/2 day project for my hubby. About 40 minutes after he pulled my car out of the garage to wash and wax it (with the Ice), he came back into the house, plopped on the couch and turned on the game. I assumed he was tired and taking a break before he finished the car up. Much to my suprise, I found out he was completely finished...including cleaning my (pain in the butt) multi-spoked wheels.

Since then, he makes it a point to wax my car with the Ice about every 2 months...simply because it doesn't take very long. The bottle, is still between 2/3 to 3/4 full, after 4 wax jobs. Granted, my car is pretty small (Chrysler Crossfire SRT-6), but it looks like this bottle is going to last for at least 12-14 waxes. That works out to about $1.20 per wax job.

Besides the benefit of getting my car waxed now on a more frequent basis, I like the fact that this doesn't leave a white residue on the trim of the car. Hubby was always really bad about doing this with the previous types of wax he used, and my car would look sloppy as a result.

So why did I give this 4 stars instead of 5? There is a downside...it isn't long lasting. According to Turtle Waxes own website ( http://www.icecarcare.net/main.taf?p=4), it will bead water and shine for at least 3 to 4 months under normal weather conditions. The website also says to apply Ice at least 4 times a year to keep the finish protected. Luckily, my hubby hasn't had a problem with applying this pretty often, but it is disconcerting that the product only lasts for an average of 3 months.

I don't drive my Crossfire in the winter months (it is garaged), but I personally wouldn't rely on this particular product in the harsh winter driving months. But for a car like mine, which is garaged in the winter and never sees salt, it seems to be a good and convenient product.
