I bought this as a Christmas gift for my daughter-in-law as she requested it on her Christmas list.
Dangerously Delish December 6, 2008 I bought this for my son for his birthday. Wow, is it easy and delicious. A person could be in real trouble with this ice cream maker sitting around. We first made the vanilla recipe and it was better than wonderful...just a few ingredients into the bowl and away you go. Fat City is on the horizon. I love it. Thank goodness my son lives 1000 miles away or I would be in real trouble with this little machine. The price is good and the ice cream is wonderful. Wonderful gift.
Takes a trial run or two, but awesome when you got it! December 5, 2008 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I LOVE frozen yogurt. red mango, pinkberry is where I go frequently, but at $5-6 per cup and money getting tight.. This $40 machine started to look better and better. So I got one exclusively for the frozen yogurt.
I want to add a bunch of tips for frozen yogurt:
-Wrap the freezer bowl in a bag in the freezer! Or else your yogurt will stick to the side and get inconsistent texture in yogurt.
-It is best to follow the recipe exactly as is. I tried the "well i'll just cut the recipe in half for the yogurt/milk/sugar.. The time spent in the machine will be off, and you'll have to monitor it exactly to get the timing down.
-The recipe calls for 2 cups yogurt. Don't you dare get yo-gurt or the flavored junk. The type of yogurt will make or break your results.
After a few trials, I found this is best in duplicating RedMango/Pinkberry: Use 1 cup FAGE greek-strained yogurt (no flavor, stronger, tangy) Use 1 cup BROWN COW Vanilla yogurt (more creamy + flavor) Regular Milk & Sugar as per recipe amount. --- Check mixture after 20min, don't wait for full 25min, machine can jam ---
-Some people put a lid on top of the machine. DON'T USE a plate, the vibration could cause it to fall off and shatter the plate (yea learned hard way). i taped a plastic lid as a cover (safer)
Makes great vegan ice cream November 25, 2008 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
My mom gave me this ice cream maker as a Christmas present a few years ago. My husband and I are vegan, so we were really excited about creating new vegan ice cream recipes. (I eventually started compiling them in my blog, A Vegan Ice Cream Paradise.)
We've never had a problem with the machine. Every recipe I've invented has frozen nicely. I keep the bowl in the freezer all of the time, so I can make ice cream whenever I feel like it.
I do wish that the plastic covering/shield thing was dishwasher-safe, because it can be a pain to clean, especially when I'm using a high-fat coconut milk. Still, it's not too difficult, and the reward (awesome vegan ice cream) is worth it.
