Leaves the popcorn damp December 27, 2008 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
I bought this b/c you all rated it so highly. But too much steam stays in the popcorn bowl, leaving the popcorn too damp.
popcprn poper December 27, 2008 popcorn pops well & quickly. If the butter melting lid is used, the popcorn is soggy, otherwise it is fine.
great value December 26, 2008 This is the second Stir Crazy I have purchased. My husband loves pop corn and it is one gift I have always thought about getting him, i.e. birthday, xmas. The only problem is that the first one lasted over five years with use about 3-5X week. It is a great product, pops most of the kernels with little oil. I was surprised that none of the local retailers carry this in their stores, but had a great experience ordering it thru Amazon!!
Good but could be better. December 20, 2008 The West Bend Stir Crazy popcorn popper makes the very best popcorn of any machine. I've had several over the years and they all work very well. The only thing I would like to see is a user replaceable heating element. The heating elements only last for about 1-3 years. Sometimes more if your lucky. Other than that it's the best popcorn maker on the market.
Cheap imitation of the original December 12, 2008 I have purchased, and worn out, three Stir Crazy Poppers. Wonderful, loved them. My last one (still working) was an 8 quart. I brought it to the office and now pop popcorn for everyone every afternoon. Everyone loves it. They've stopped bringing their nasty microwave corn. But, getting worn, I decided to buy a new one. hmmm... new design. Bought it. The wire sweep doesn't lay flat enough and kernals get caught under it causing it to bounce back and forth. When 'finished' popping only about half the kernals had popped. I returned it. I'm now on my 3rd new one. Same problems, but with the kernals getting caught under the sweep they are scraping the non-stick finish off. It also gives off a nasty smell. the smell is so bad, nobody wants to eat it. It pops more kernals than the first new one, but still not worth having. Bending the wire doesn't work as it will still either scrape the finish or get the corn caught and change directions. I've pulled out my old 8qt and we're back to eating good popcorn. I'm returning the latest new to the store tomorrow. I won't be buying another one.
