Best Chocolate Powder ever! December 21, 2007 5 out of 5 found this review helpful
I love this product. Everyone who tries it wants to know where I got it. The best thing is the flavor is so rich, you really don't need sugar. If you are trying to cut out sugar and are a chocolate addict like me, this is the best. Thanks to everyone who added recipes in their reviews. Those have been great.
Criollo beans? December 8, 2007 23 out of 29 found this review helpful
Does anyone else wonder why this is so inexpensive? Navitas claims that this powder is made from the beans of the criollo tree, but because the criollo is highly susceptible to disease, there are very few of them--less than 5% of all cacao beans come from this type of tree. It seems too good to be true that this product comes from an extremely scarce source, is organic, and cold-processed (raw), yet costs HALF as much as most organic raw cocoa powders, which are usually $20-$25/lb. (Mskaff, I wonder if perhaps you're thinking of cocoa mixes, which can be more than 50% sugar? If not, then I'm ready to move to Pittsburgh, if I can really find organic cocoa in grocery stores as inexpensively as you claim!)
I've written Navitas twice requesting information, but they've declined to answer, which also seems odd, since most companies of this type are eager to educate people about their products and ethical processes. That's also why I gave the powder a 3-star review; it tastes fine (but I'm not a connoisseur, so what do I know), but I hesitate to buy from a company that's reluctant to answer questions about their products. I'd really like to understand how it's possible for them to offer criollo beans at this price.
Excellent product and value December 2, 2007 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
Navitas Naturals Raw Chocolate is an excellent product to use to get antioxidents into your diet. It can be easily added to raw recipes with a little raw, natural sweetner...like Agave Nectar. Use daily with purified water, raw coconut oil, powdered greens, raw almond milk, rice protein powder, an organic banana and a little agave nectar for a delicious smoothie. You will not find a more delicious raw chocolate on the planet. Amazon's price is more reasonable than all other local and internet sources I have checked. Most health food stores charge double the price.
enough to survive a nuclear winter November 27, 2007 16 out of 19 found this review helpful
Not really, but for the price, you get a ton of awesome organic cocoa powder. It's sugarless, but the flavor is incredible when mixed with other foods. No dairy either. Yay!
Here's what I use it for: melt with some coconut oil in the microwave (about 15 seconds), mix and then dump a pint of Rice Dream on top. Dress with coconut flakes and fresh fruit, like raspberries and bananas. To. die. for. (Rice Dream uses a sugar from pure cane juice; better for you than the white refined powder, but I still try to avoid eating very much of it.)
Hot cocoa: Plain, unsweetened rice milk works best. One small teaspoon and two minutes in the nuker. Stir. Deee-lish. Better than any moo juice and Hershey's, that's for dang sure.
People trying to wean themselves off sugar and other mind-altering foods will not notice its absence in these recipes. Flavorful food has been killed through sugar, salt and chemicals. It's a real treat to be able to go back to simplicity and enjoy something that is tasty in its own right. Plus, chocolate in its raw, natural form is good for the health.
yum! November 16, 2007 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
This is my mom's account and I'm the one that ordered this, but she even asks me if I'll make her chocolate ice cream with this! I love chocolate so when I went raw this was nice to have. The nativas Raw chocolate powder is much cheaper than a lot of other brands and it taste really good when I make raw ice cream with frozen bananas or chocolate pudding with coconut.
