Decent Hardware, Terrible Searching January 6, 2009 9 out of 15 found this review helpful
Pros: Books on the fly All books in one device Saves paper Downloads are fast Accessible most anywhere Good Battery life when wireless is off
Cons: Terrible searching No way to find books by series The buttons are too large and are easily hit Holding the book is awkward No way to share books between readers. When books are downloaded the kindle serial number is embedded in the book file in binary form. Slow
My Kindle January 6, 2009 9 out of 11 found this review helpful
I absolutely love my Kindle. I load it up with books I want to read and I'm on my way. Wherever I go, I take my Kindle and when I have a few spare minutes, I'm reading. Plus, I don't have books scattered all over my house anymore. The only way the Kindle could be improved is if it had a place on both sides for your thumbs to hold onto the device. Too often I end up turning the page when I don't mean to.
Beware! Don't drop the %^$& thing! January 6, 2009 11 out of 24 found this review helpful
Forget the seemingly impressive "drop test" video. My Kindle was in its protective case, fell from a low counter onto a carpeted floor and was rendered completely inoperable. I had had it for a month. Amazon offered to replace it for half its price, $180.00. I just can't see spending that much more on a device that shatters like an egg. Very disappointed. BEWARE.
Incredible Reading Device/Technology January 6, 2009 8 out of 10 found this review helpful
My 22 year old daughter has not put the kindle down since Christmas morning! She has downloaded several books and read them throughout this christmas break. We have had it on display as family and friends have visited to view the newest addition to our techno family. My daughter only wishes she could down load the required text books for her upcoming final semester at Purdue.
Love it or Hate it January 6, 2009 10 out of 11 found this review helpful
I have had my Kindle now for about a month. Here are two lists for you, one stating the things I love about it and the other things I hate about it, plus some additional features I've yet to explore.
Love It 1. Screen is so incredibly easy to read 2. Lightweight and fits in my purse/bag 3. Battery life is amazing 4. Automatically remembers where I am in all the books I'm reading 5. Lookup for words I think I know, but need to verify 6. Wireless capability to download new books and browse Amazon store 7. 'Screen Saver' for those times when I don't want to turn the unit off, but still need to put back in my bag.
Hate It 1. Too many page turning buttons that are WAY TOO LARGE. Come on, do we really need a 4" button on the right side? 2. Limited file support - however, after comparing pricing on some recent books Amazon does have the best price. 3. Protective case doesn't really 'hold' the unit well (my back cover keeps popping off) 4. Sorting is limited - I want CATEGORIES!
Looking into 1. Found out there is a new app for reading Manga, really looking forward to trying that out! 2. Book light - screen is not backlit (and that's GOOD) but my new light is a bit bulky and awkward 3. Conversion of .pdfs to Kindle format - many others have written about that but I'm still not to that point.
