Product Description Housed in a smooth, modern-looking design, this 1000-watt electric kettle rapidly boils up to 1 quart of water for coffee, tea, instant soups, and more. The unit features a detachable cord and a nonspill spout for graceful serving, plus a generous handle with a secure grip. Its immersed heating element provides a rapid and quiet heating process, making it ideal for the office, home, or college dorm. Dual water-level indicators allow for convenient filling, and the unit's easy-open lid is designed with a security lock to prevent spilling. And there's no need to worry about leaving it on, the kettle automatically shuts off when the water boils, and its boil-dry protection keeps the unit from boiling when there's no water left

Perfect for my cuppa November 23, 2008 I use this kettle at work. I make my big cuppa tea each morning and this kettle heats the water quickly and efficiently. It holds enough for my HUGE mug to make my tea and the amount left over gets reheated an hour later to make oatmeal. Perfect size. Perfect performance.
Not good for boiling again fast November 23, 2008 One big problem with this model - let's say you boil water once and you want to boil more water a little while later, the kettle won't let you turn it on. It's almost like the sensor setting is set to be too sensitive. Otherwise, water boils quickly
We Own Two - They're Great! November 23, 2008 First - we too had an issue with a plastic odor.. We solved the problem easily. After following the inadequate instructions supplied with the kettle, let it cool and wash with mild dish soap. Rinse well; heat another pot of water; pour it out; unplug it; dry it; leave the lid up and let it sit overnight. This solved the odor in both kettles we have. These are obviously put into a plastic bag as soon as manufactured and the plastic odor has never had a chance to dissipate.
Second - there is little else to say. It heats water to a boil very quickly. It shuts off automatically as soon as it has done that. It's meant to do only that and it does it as well as we expected it to. The price is nice, too.
submerged heating coil means FAST boiling November 21, 2008 This electric kettle boils water really quickly because the heating element is a submerged coil, not just a plate on the bottom. The kettle automatically turns off when the water boils. It doesn't make a sound though to let you know when this has happened - only a slight clicking noise as the on-off switch physically flicks to off - so if you want boiling water, it's best not to walk away. Just watch it until it boils. Luckily it only takes a minute or two since the kettle is so fast. It's only intended for boiling *water* - no making soup or tea in this kettle, because of the heating coil.
For $15 can't be beat November 21, 2008 For a $15 expenditure cannot be beat. Made of plastic (not great but does the job-especially for $15), does not take long to warm up, relatively easy to clean, easy to see water level. The only critique is that it comes with an electric cord that is about 3 ft long. It would have been nice if it included a longer cord.
PS- after using this thing more than a week noticed that the plastic taste that seems to rub off into the water does not seem to disappear, unlike some other plastic kettels. If you do not mind having your water taste like plastic would give this a three star rating, otherwise a 2.
