Mrs.Balls November 21, 2007 I was first exposed to Mrs. Balls in South Africa. It was a nice flavor but I didn't truly appreciate it since all of the foods I used it with were new flavors to me. Now that I tried it on American food, I can't believe how good it really is. It adds such a new twist to the same old foods. I looked to buy it in the US stores and couldn't find it anywhere. I was so happy to find a vendor and even more impressed that it wasn't overpriced. HIGHLY RECOMMEND this product
My favorite chutney. April 10, 2007 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
Anyone who grew up in South Africa loves Mrs. Balls Chutney. I have been living in the USA for twenty years and have tried many chutneys, including many from local Indian Groceries and home-made varieties from speciality stores. Nothing quite beats the taste of this brand. I know many recipes that use this chutney to make a wonderful marinade, or sauce for chicken dishes as well. These recipes can be found on line. I was delighted to find that Amazon had listed this incredible product. I bought six bottles and as soon as they are finished, I know where I can find them again. Either the Regular or the Peach varieties are a family favorite, even amongst my American born children. Thank you Amazon.
Nothing else like it January 3, 2007 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Just seeing the jar on the table as one settles down to a traditional South African lamb curry with a dollop of Mrs. Ball's is enough to put you mentally right down in Durban or Jo'burg. Somebody told me they'd changed the recipe, but it tastes original to me.
Indispensible November 29, 2005 8 out of 8 found this review helpful
Mrs Balls is a South African staple. It's not only one of the best chutney's I've ever eaten with curry but it does double duty as a sweet/sour sauce or dip, turns regular old cheese sandwiches into a teatime delicacy and goes wonderfully with deli meats. We go through huge amounts of the stuff (as I imagine most south africans do) and I always take particular pleasure in introducing my american friends to its yumminess. Highly recommended by this particular ex-pat.
