Red River Hot Cereal August 29, 2008 This cereal is nutritious and delicious. I'm a fan of hot cereal and this is my favorite. I first discovered it when we were in Canada, and liked it so much we pay shipping charges to purchase it. The variety of nutrients is very healthy, but the taste is also great. We will continue to purchase it wherever we find it sold.
There is none better! May 25, 2008 We enjoyed Red River cereal at a resort in Colorado every summer and started buying it at our local health food store when at home in Texas. I never saw it when I was FL or MD so in my adulthood I figured it was no longer made. I was so excited to learn that it was still available in the States! My husband, who hates all forms of hot cereal, is compltely sold on Red River and even requests it sometimes. Oh, and I've also turned him on to McCann's Irish Steal Cut Oats, and he really likes them, too.
Now, I'm having it shipped to my in-laws for my FIL's new diet that encourages whole grains. The read the label of my Red River box and couldn't wait to try it.
We use it as Oatmeal helper April 23, 2008 My wife and I ate oatmeal every day, then took a cue from our in-laws and now use Red River in conjunction with "steel-cut" oatmeal (also called "pinhead" oatmeal)--the kind that takes 30 minutes to cook.
We make five servings (a weeks worth of breakfast for one of us) by boiling 5 cups of water to which we add 1 cup of steel-cut oatmeal. After boiling for five minutes (no cover) we then add 1/3 cup of Red River and cook on low heat for 30 more minutes.
At that ratio you can still taste the oatmeal and the Red River flavor is also equality present. The mixed cereal is also "creamier" than the Red River, but not as creamy as the oatmeal by itself. We love the addition of the other grains for the flavor, the texture, the taste and even the appearance.
We get McCann's Steel Cut Oatmeal, Traditional, 28-Ounce Tins (Pack of 4) on Amazon, but get the Red River from Canadasfood.com where they sell it by the case and shipping is only [$..] a case.
THE BEST!! January 8, 2008 I grew up in Canada and we always had RR in the house. I've now lived in the US for many years and I always stocked up on Red River when I'd go home to visit the family. I just finished my last box of RR and I'm already in withdrawal. It's the absolute best hot cereal around, especially during this cold SF winter! So I was delighted to see it on Amazon - what a great site. I've stocked up again.
Mmmmmm December 18, 2007 This is great hot cereal. I first had Red River in a Canadian fishing camp about 13 years ago. It wasn't until recently(past two years) that I have begun ordering it on the Internet. Great hot cereal! It'll have you hooked.
