Maytag Blue- In the rolling hills of central Iowa is the Maytag appliance factory; down the road is the Maytag Dairy. Although this blue has been produced since the 30's, its nationwide popularity is only recent. Thanks, in part, to Emeril Lagasse, this world-class, lemony, tangy blue is now featured on menus across the USA. Cabot Vintage Choice Vermont Cheddar- Cabot, a sleepy farm town tucked in Northern Vermont, is home to the Cabot Creamery, dedicated to creating world-class cheddars while supporting the independent farmers. Established as a cooperative in 1919, the dairy farmers actually own the company! Each block of this cheddar is hand-selected by Cabot's president. Aged for 18-24 months, limited edition Vintage Choice (Cabot's best) is complex, opulent and full of nuances. Vella Special Select Dry Monterey Jack- Tom Vella began making cheese in 1931 in Sonoma Valley, CA. His company, now run by his son, Ig, is famous for their Jack. Jack cheese was first created in the Gold Rush Days in Monterey by Scotsman, David Jacks. This sharp, nutty Special Select is hard enough to grate and noted for its pale yellow interior and unique, brown, flaky rind (a combination of cocoa powder and spices).Assortment includes 1/2 pound of each cheese.
