Product Description Fruit black at maturation in late November, but does not mature all at once. Small fruit has rounded top. Good resistance to frosts and highly adaptable to diverse climates and soils. Can be grown anywhere if kept indoors. Produces a good, soft Spanish oil. Olive trees are biennial -- meaning that they produce fruit every other year. Even if a pollenizer is not required, it will help increase yields so we sell our olive trees in pairs. Evergreen, long-lived (500+ years), beautiful ornamental tree with soft gray-green foliage. Slow growing tree. Great for containers. Drought resistant, grow in shallow, alkaline soils with little fertilization. Avoid overwatering and provide good drainage. Thrive in hot, dry summers but adequate in coastal regions. Minimum winter temperatures shouldn't drop below 22-25F (green fruit will be damaged at 32F), but average winter temperatures above 50F will inhibit fruiting. Plant in early spring to establish before winter. In areas outside the southeast, trees will ship bareroot. Why purchase your tree from The Gourmet Gardener? We are a different kind of gardening company in three ways. First, we pre-select the best tasting, most vigorous varieties for you. This takes the guess work of plant selection for you. Second, after you order, we will send you an email actual pictures of plants for you to choose from. (If we don't hear back from you, we'll send you the plants we like the most.) We want you to be happy with the tree you receive. Selecting your actual plants online gives you the same opportunity to choose that you would have in a local garden center. Finally, when you shop with The Gourmet Gardener, you become part of our gardening family. We welcome questions (email preferably) about this purchase and ALL of the plants you grow. Our goal: to provide our customers with positive gardening experiences and delicious harvests. Ships bareroot to areas outside the Southeast

Dead Trees Make Lousy Gifts January 16, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I ordered these trees after I was assured they would be sent in insulated packaging ("Yes, the olive trees will do very well for you indoors in the winter. We will ship them with a warming pad to safeguard them in transit.") They arrived in a regular box, with no insulation (a problem in winter in Chicago for non cold-hardy trees). I planted per instructions, but they started dying off within a week and still show no signs of recovery.
When I contacted the seller, she said she would send replacements. Two weeks have passed, and they still have not arrived. I e-mailed again to ask for a refund, and have received no response from the seller after a few days.
These were intended as a housewarming gift, but I have to come up with something else now!
The trees I received were much smaller than in the photo. However, it is common practice to show photos of mature plants in nursery catalogs and I did not expect trees of the size pictured.

The service was very good with email communication regarding care before shippment. Plants came and they look great and pictured just like the photo. Great service!
Wonderful item November 15, 2007 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
I had purchased these trees for my Father as a gift after his trees had sadly been chopped down by a neighbor. They are gorgeous, very portable, and are very promising. The olives are of the top grade and he is thrilled with gorgeous trees that he can care for all year round. Shipping was a little long but worth the wait.
